The Overland Park Convention Center took first place honors at the second annual MASSCO Housekeeping Olympics on June 19, 2008 at the Overland Park International Trade Mart.
This marks the second consecutive year the Overland Park Convention Center has captured the award. The competition featured thirteen teams from around the Kansas City Metro Area, including school districts and local hospitals.
OPCC's team, led by Myles Gabel, included Solomon Bass, Ron McEachron, Tracey Jones, David Alvarado Terri Giles, Kurt Hammett, Rob Patterson, and Jordan Shumway on his last day before retirement from OPCC and competitive Housekeeping Olympic competition.
The Overland Park Convention Center stormed back from an early deficit to win three of the final five events to force a tie and playoff for first place. Solo Bass came through in a head-to-head battle to lead OPCC to victory. “It was a ‘hard fought battle’ that came ‘down to the wire’, but we felt the ‘momentum shift in our favor’ and then our ‘key players’ delivered the ‘knock-out blow’" said an anonymous, unidentified, sports metaphor team source.
