FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
(Overland Park, KS – April 18, 2008) KC Slammers will host the 17th Annual Heartland Model Car National on June 21-22 at the Overland Park Convention Center. Model car builders of all ages and talents are geared up to see model cars from across the country and to compete in their favorite category including this year’s theme, “50 Years of the Impala.”
Contest registration is Saturday, June 21 from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. Entrants will leave models overnight to be judged. The cost is $15 for adults, $10 for teens, and free for children 12 and under. The single fee covers both registration and Sunday’s admission.
The swap meet and model display opens to the public on Sunday, June 22 at 9 a.m. and concludes with an awards program at 3 p.m. General ticket admission is $5.00 at the door.
The event will feature over 50 vendor tables, door prizes, show promos, games for kids, DJ Elvis Twitty, workshops, and special guest, Bob Paeth - a nationally respected pro-modeler who has been modeling since the 1950’s.
“People enjoy the camaraderie with other model car builders and displaying their work. The fact that our show is competitive and presents so many awards is why we have participation by so many model car enthusiasts from across a multi state region.” said KC Slammer member, Jerry Mounce. For more information about the event, visit www.kcslammers.com.
The KC Slammers began in November, 1991, when a few model car builders wanted to promote their hobby. The KC Slammers presented the first Heartland Model Car Nationals Contest in September of 1992. The club has been able to produce this nationally-known modeling event annually ever since, with coverage of the show included in the major car modeling hobby magazines. Automotive model builders and collectors from all over the region and beyond regularly attend the event. The Kansas City Slammers Model Car Club strives to increase interest in the model car hobby and to promote model car related events in the area. Building model cars has been and will continue to be an area of interest for so many folks who just love cars…big and small.
